Their name, AlphaWhores, is a playful nod to alfajores, the South American pastry - a tongue-in-cheek contrast to the weight and aggression of their sound.
Formed in 2021, the project began as a way for Massiel and Juan Carlos to process the end of long-term personal relationships - a starting point that shaped their songwriting into an exploration of identity, mental health, and emotional resilience.
Despite being a new project, AlphaWhores have already made an impact. Their releases have been featured by Kerrang! and Louder, and their music has reached listeners around the world via radio shows like Pegadas de Andreas Kisser, hosted by Sepultura’s guitarist. Fans from the US, UK, Canada, Japan, and Europe have been discovering the band organically - and their single “Same Team” climbed to No. 1 on the Hypeddit Metal Chart, staying in the Top 3 since September 2023.
